Challenges
The owner grew the company to $3.1 Million in revenue using self-discipline, determination, and elbow grease. This chutzpah led the company into what is called the “Midas Trap,” where no matter what they touch it turns to gold. The problem with this is that it leads to complacency - unless they keep the edge and continually push for growth, decline is going to happen… and that’s what was happening with the company. The owner was working in all areas of his business doing the work. He was exhausted and needed to determine how to get himself and his business operating without him doing everything.
Solutions
We took a dual-focus approach. We worked on the initial problem of the business depending heavily on the owner having the “Midas Touch,” and him working in the business instead of on the business. We addressed this by implementing business processes, systems, methods, and most importantly, people to ensure that we had the right team in place for growth. We also worked on building, defining, ensuring the foundation of any business - Vision, Mission, Purpose, Values and a Unique Selling Proposition.
Results
The owner of the company is now operating with just one hat - which is Leader of the organization responsible for setting the strategic direction, finding and retaining A-level talent, and cultivating an amazing culture for them to work in. The company has broken free of the “Midas Trap” and now the owner works on the business and not in the business. Over a 3-year timeframe of us working together, the company’s revenue has grown from $3M to $5.8M annually.
