Craig Atkins, franchise owner at InXpress Reading, has just expanded his business by adding a warehouse.
The warehouse is designed for small e-commerce customers to free up their home space and store it at Craig’s premises where Craig and his team will also deal with dispatching their goods as the orders are completed. This is just one example of the ways in which franchisees can add additional revenue streams to their businesses in order to meet changes in market demand.
"I’ve set up a mini distribution centre from my office premises. We have just expanded into bigger premises and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to offer this new service. When talking to SME’s it became more and more obvious that they needed a solution to free up their garages and spare bedrooms. It was a great opportunity locally and when we found the premises it all seemed to fit together."
InXpress work hard to make sure that their franchisees remain up-to-date with changes in their market and in technology so they strongly encourage franchisees to innovate within their own businesses and think of new ways to target their local markets. InXpress know that franchisees are the best people to tell that about the methods and services that work and they hope that the new warehouse facility will soon be rolled out across the network.
"More and more businesses are importing from abroad and selling goods on eBay and the great thing about our new service is that they can have the goods delivered, stored and sent from our premises so they never have to deal directly with anything. They can come and stock check occasionally and have a coffee but we’re offering them a one-stop solution so that they can continue to build their businesses and go out to trade shows while we deal with the technicalities. At the moment we are targeting small businesses who work from home because the larger companies are too big for our premises at the moment!
Having a warehouse helps us to retain customers because once they stock with us, it becomes much harder for them to move their shipping services. We’re giving them a one-stop-shop which means they don’t have to handle any of the shipping side of things."

The overriding reason that customers are turning to InXpress for their shipping requirements is all about the overall service that is provided.
With InXpress you don’t buy or sell stock so the business has low overheads and you don’t lose money on damaged stock. You’re selling the services of world branded products and it’s much easier to sell DHL services than white van. E-commerce is booming at the moment because more and more people are now buying online.Craig Atkins, Reading franchisee since 2007
InXpress gives you a business concept and plan that you can run with. All you need is the right work ethic to deliver and make the business successful. There’s a model in place so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel – that was the biggest attraction for me.Lendy Mazur, Salisbury franchisee since February 2013
I’ve known about franchising for quite a while and I’m reassured by the fact that 95% of franchisees are still in business after 5 years. New businesses often fail before the initial five years.Bill Carter, Liverpool franchisee since 2008
