Girls’ Aloud, the UK’s premiere girl band, are launching a new single on 17th March called Can’t Speak French. If only they knew about La Jolie Ronde when they were younger!
La Jolie Ronde is the UK’s Number 1 provider of French language learning for children aged between 3 and 11 and this year celebrates its silver jubilee.
With La Jolie Ronde children learn orally first. The emphasis is on songs, role-play and learning to communicate. Indeed, children having completed the course have a sound knowledge of basic vocabulary and phrases which gives them a good grounding for future language learning. Reading and writing are postponed until confident oral activities have been preformed and are established. Both activities are seen as a reinforcement of listening and speaking skills.
Colette Leclercq-Hallam, Founder of La Jolie Ronde, says “Speaking a language is crucial to the ability to learn it and we have found that oral activities come easy to young children. They have a keen ear and are very receptive. At this very young age, the strategies and language skills, which they use for developing their own language, are very active. It is the ideal time to immerse them in the sound of the language and they enjoy being able to show their parents how much they have learnt too!”
If only Girls Aloud had had lessons from La Jolie Ronde when they were at primary school …… quel dommage!
