Xpress teams up with Xerox to take print franchise across UK

"We believe we have created the perfect solution to provide print for trade and retail customers. Our revolutionary web technology caters for all print requirements.” - Alex Hirons, Xpress MD

High-street printing is set for a revolution after start-up company Xpress joined forces with Xerox to bring colour printing to 200 locations nationwide. The franchise was successfully piloted in The Mall, Uxbridge last week and will be officially launched this Friday by a host of celebrities from Channel 4’s Big Brother.

Xpress was founded by Alex Hirons, a former printer who saw a gap in the retail printing market. He said: “After two years of planning, we are pleased to finally see it up and running. We are delivering a quality commercial print network in a pure retail environment. We believe we have created the perfect solution to provide print for trade and retail customers. Our revolutionary web technology caters for all print requirements.”

The initiative will target markets including schools, the public and SME companies. Xerox’s DocuColor 252 digital printers and Infigo’s web-to-press technology will be used at all Xpress locations. Binding and laminating will also be available. Infigo’s technology allows users to personalise their print work and send it to an Xpress centre, where they can pick it up, or have it posted to them.

Xpress is working with The Mall Co to open franchises in its shopping centres. Darren Cassidy, director and general manager of Xerox UK office business, said: “Together with Xpress we are bringing light printing to a wide customer base. Quality colour printing is becoming a reality for everyone.”

Xpress will initially make a “controlled launch”, with 12 franchises expected by the end of the year. Hirons expects this number to grow to 200 over the next four years, before expanding into Europe. Hirons is also keen to promote Xpress’s environmental and charitable benefits. It is touted as being “carbon saving”, because all print is produced locally. Breast Cancer charity Pretty in Pink will also benefit from a partnership with the new brand.
