Martyn Surridge, a qualified building defects surveyor, bought an Aspray franchise last year. Aspray Ltd is a national franchise which primarily project managing building insurance claims and general building works for both commercial and domestic property owners.
There are over sixty franchisees operating throughout the UK and Ireland and Aspray are on target to expand by 25% over the next twelve months.
“After selling my business in 2005 I planned to expand my buy to let portfolio and live off the proceeds but boredom and the credit crunch helped to change my mind. I’ve set up several businesses in the past but in this climate I decided to investigate buying into a franchise with a national brand and a ‘tried and tested’ business model.
With my interest in property Aspray appealed. My concern was that a network is as only as good as its franchises but with Aspray I was instantly impressed by head office genuine desire to make the business work with like-minded people, rather than obsessed with getting their hands on my cash – I also liked the fact that as a relatively new company I could play a part in its success.
Six months on I have a successful business thanks to the training and support I have received from head office as well as some fabulous leads. Aspray have recently trusted me to take on work from Reich, an independent insurance broker. I enjoy our shared ethos ‘keep the customer happy and get on with the job’ - happy clients always lead to more business. I think that working with companies like Reich will play a big part in Aspray’s future success.
There are many facets to this business but good communication skills and being prepared to work hard will ensure a lucrative and satisfying business. The main thing I’ve learnt is that my wife isn’t the only one who can multi-task!
